Mike Redmond

Senior Associate

Dr. Mike Redmond is completing his 10th year as a school Superintendent. Currently, Redmond is in his fifth year as the Superintendent of Schools in Shakopee, Minnesota, a suburban community located southwest of Minneapolis. Shakopee Public Schools serves nearly 8000 students in grades K-12. Prior to this appointment, Mike was the Superintendent in Goodhue, MN. Under Redmond’s tenure as superintendent, he led both districts to successful voter approved campaigns. In 2018, Goodhue approved the largest construction project in the school district's history. In November 2021, the voters in Shakopee, by a nearly two to one margin, approved both questions of an operating levy of $1266 per pupil. Prior to this levy vote, Shakopee Public Schools was the only public school district in the Twin Cities without a voter approved operating levy. After the vote, the district moved from having no levy to having one that provides the Twin Cities metro average in terms of per pupil revenue. An article co-authored by Don Lifto and Redmond, detailing the Shakopee levy journey was published in the December 2022 issue of the AASA School Administrator.

The levy outcomes in the role of superintendent are a continuation of previous successes in Redmond’s now 34-year career in education. As a principal he led the cultural and academic turnaround of a middle school, he was selected Mahtomedi’s Teacher of the Year, and as a high school girls soccer coach was selected five times in a fourteen year career as the Minnesota Coach of the Year, and one time as the National Coach of the Year, while coaching teams in Mahtomedi that won four state championships and were nationally ranked.

Redmond earned his Ed.D. in Instructional Leadership from University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky in 2016, and his BA and MA from the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities). Mike enjoys working with aspiring educators as an adjunct professor for Winona State University (Minnesota) teaching courses in School Management, School Law, and School Finance. He truly enjoys working in the areas of team and leadership development, student learning initiatives, and executive coaching, and levy campaigns. Even though it wasn’t a planned part of his career path, through experience in multiple situations, Redmond has developed a unique and extensive skill set in leading an organization through turbulent times.
