Richard Katz
Senior Associate
Dr. Richard Katz is a former superintendent and HR Director who brings a practical, grounded perspective to leadership, organizational effectiveness, and change management. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with boards and leadership teams to raise accountability and standards, strengthen systems and processes, and build trust and shared purpose during periods of structural and financial complexity.
Rich has led districts through moments that required difficult decision making, including aligning resources with priorities, addressing human capital challenges, and improving communication with staff and communities. He is known for helping leadership teams confront reality with transparency and structure, while motivating and engaging others around a clear path forward for long term sustainability and improved day to day experiences for students and staff.
Rich earned his doctorate in Educational Administration and Supervision from Rutgers University, a master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Montclair State University, and a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from The Ohio State University. He also attended the Superintendent Leadership Institute at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
In addition to his district leadership roles, Rich has been actively involved in state and national leadership organizations, including ASCD and NJASCD, and has mentored new superintendents and administrators. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member in graduate educational leadership programs, where his teaching focuses on supervision, leadership practice, school and community relations, and district level decision making.
